The Beloved Son
Advent and Christmas announced Ready or Not Here He Comes. Epiphany shouts: Here’s Jesus. From a humble baptism by John in the Jordan River to a glorious transfiguration Jesus is revealed to the world as humble, magnetic, powerful, and compassionate. Knowing Jesus is a lifelong adventure. 2021 will certainly have its share of triumphs and tragedies. The one, never changing constant is God’s love for us revealed in the birth, life, death, resurrection, ascension, and promised coming again in glory of his beloved Son.
As We Gather – In quick decisive strokes Mark paints a picture of our restoration. Heaven and earth meant to be together, but separated by sin and evil, are being brought back together. John announces it. Jesus accomplishes it. And God, the Father affirms it. Jesus steps up out of the water and heaven is torn open and the Spirit descends on him. Jesus is the Beloved Son, who brings us back into the presence of God in the water of our baptism by the power of the Holy Spirit. The adventure of another year of following Jesus begins today. Where will he lead us in 2021?

Please wear a face covering as you come and go to worship. Keep an appropriate distance from others and if you wish to gather with others, please do so outside rather than inside. If you are more comfortable continuing to worship online, please do so. It is so easy to show love for our neighbor in these ways. On Sunday, we heard how the disciples spoke to people from every nation in their own language. God created the human race and the Gospel is for people from every nation under heaven. Only God’s love can remove prejudice of any kind from our human hearts. Pray for our nation so that others can learn about the love of God through you. If you would like to read a response from Rev. Matthew Harrison, President of the LCMS on the death of George Floyd and the ensuing riots, please click here.

- Supply more than 115 families with the resources they needed, totalling more than $10,000!
- You made it possible for an additional $40,000 to be supplied for tuition assistance above the $30,000 earmarked in May.

Sunday, May 17
It is with some sadness that we have decided to delay the start of our on campus worship. We know that you are anxious to return to live worship, so are we. After further prayer and consideration, church leadership decided more time was needed to properly prepare our staff, the facility, and cleaning procedures and protocols for in person worship
In these times of uncertainty, we also know that one thing is certain: the Lord is present. Whether we are worshipping in a building or our homes, we are all one as part of Christ’s church. So as we hold our online worship this weekend, please sing loud. Pray that these circumstances continue to bring others closer to Him. Talk with each other about where the Spirit is leading us so that we can all show His love to our neighbor.
Please join us for online worship at 8, 9:30 or 11am on Sunday. Thank you for your patience.

Subject: The Latest St. Luke’s Update
Dear Members of St. Luke’s,
In this rapidly changing health situation, it is important to remember that God’s presence and promises remain constant. As we prayerfully navigate each week, the past has much to teach us. In 1527, the plague returned to Germany. Responding to the fears that flourished among the people, Martin Luther emphasized the importance of providing care for our neighbors, the need to use common sense, and cautioned against recklessness.
It is our heart to serve as much as possible, while also keeping others from risk. This is why we will begin observing all worship online starting with tomorrow’s Lenten Worship. This is in a desire to continue to provide worship opportunities that connect us to God and to one another while also practicing social distancing to “flatten the curve”. The services will be available as followed:
- Wednesday Lenten Service will stream at 8:40 AM.
- Sunday Morning Traditional Service will be streamed at 9:30 AM.
- Sunday Generations Family Time will be streamed at 10:30.
- Sunday Fuel Service will be streamed at 11:00 AM.
After all services are streamed, they are immediately available for you to watch on our YouTube channel.
We are also postponing all onsite Bible studies and classes. However we are currently working on online opportunities for our continued study of God’s Word together. Please look for emails on these updates.
As things continue to change, we will be given many new opportunities to live out the Jesus Adventure. New needs will arise for us to find creative solutions, and needs may arise in your home that will require help. Take courage, let the perfect love of God cast out fear, and stay tuned for how you can provide or receive help.
Do not dwell on anticipatory anxiety or fear. Focus on today. Remember that God will provide your daily bread. Take a walk. Read God’s Word. Connect with others in a new way.
We are still here.
God is present.
He has a path through this.
The Pastors and Leadership of St. Luke’s
