Hey, Brothers and Sisters in Christ!
My name is Mickey (Mikayla) Curl, and I am blessed to have the opportunity to be the DCE intern at St. Luke’s from June 2025- 2026. I am so stoked to get to know the family of believers at the church soon!
I am originally from Colorado, and I recently graduated from Concordia University, Nebraska with degrees in Elementary Education as well as Christian Education Leadership. For those who don’t know, DCE stands for Director of Christian Education, and in order to be certified as a DCE in the LCMS, students are required to complete a year-long internship following their coursework- which is what I will be doing at St. Luke’s!
I could not be more excited to get to serve God in this vocation! My passion in DCE ministry lies in student and youth ministry, so I am beyond blessed to get to be doing that this next year. My goal this year is to leave as much room as possible for God to work, so I can be a vessel He uses to equip His disciples to live out their faith. One verse that I have consistently come back to you during my preparatory years has been 2 Corinthians 12:9- “But He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”’ It is an encouragement to me to remember that God can, and does, use the messy parts of me for His purpose. While being a part of different churches for fieldwork these last few years, I have enjoyed working with adults, high school, junior high, and elementary students, teaching and organizing activities for them to learn about Jesus. While I enjoy adult education, to me, there is something particularly special to me about working with children and students. I have been blessed over the last several years to get to see the ‘light’ go on with various kids and students when they realize a new and incredible part of God’s nature. They never stop surprising me in the best ways!
Along with teaching students about Jesus, and getting to know them, I am also a huge fan of anything outdoors- hiking, biking, swimming- you name it! In my free time I also enjoy trying new coffee shops or activities out, and getting to know lots of new people. I’m also really curious to see what life is like in a state that is hot and humid, since I grew up in such a dry one! If you made it to this point, thank you for reading. Again, God is good, and I am so blessed to have this opportunity. I can’t wait to meet you soon!
God’s Blessings to you! ~Mickey Curl
