This members’ story ties in perfectly with last weeks’ Weekly Awakening Question: How will you use Jesus’ blessings to bless someone this week? Enjoy…

My daughter was on the Varsity Volleyball team this season at St. Luke’s School, and we were excited to support a charity near and dear to our hearts: The Team Up Against Cancer Event, BASE Camp. BASE Camp helps children and their families who are going through cancer treatments as well as regular life. They bring dinner to families or a birthday party to celebrate when the family truly doesn’t feel like life is worth celebrating; they will also show up to bring an ice cream treat to a patient because they want something sweet. Their goal is to deliver a smile to a child with cancer, and they do this so well!

Congratulations to our girls’ Volleyball team for winning first place at the Team Up Against Cancer Tournament! At this tournament along with several other Lutheran schools, we were able to raise $4,000 to go towards @basecampccf. An organization that helps support children affected by cancer. My husband and I had the privilege to bring Terri Jones Robbins, BASE Camp CEO, to the chapel service at the end of October when she was being presented with the check for the total fundraising amount. Terri sat with my husband and me for chapel, and as the service began, the congregation said Luther’s Morning Prayer together. Terri looked at me with tears in her eyes and asked me what prayer that was. We googled it on her phone, and she hugged me and said she couldn’t wait to start her morning every day saying that prayer.

Luther’s Morning Prayer

“I thank you, my Heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have kept me this night from all harm and danger; and I pray that You would keep me this day also from sin and every evil, that all my doings and life may please You. For into Your hands I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things. Let Your holy angel be with me, that the evil foe may have no power over me. Amen.”
