LONGING FOR MORE.  Invocation. Our hearts are created for longing.  Too often, we find ourselves with a strong yearning to obtain something unattainable or distant, like a person, a place, or a time long gone. God created us to have a longing that is focused on something that is not only attainable, but is promised!  This Advent and Christmas season, we will focus our longing on Jesus, the promises he makes, and the life he provides.  With our longing for him, we will find that he fills all our needs and more!

Sunday, December 7th – Longing for Change.  “God, where are you?” Most of us hit a point in our lives where we ask that question. When God sent John the Baptist to his people, he was the first prophet to arrive after 400 years of silence. John’s main message? The Messiah is coming and bringing change to the world. We long for change both in our world and in our lives. While the world says we can change ourselves, we know that true change comes through Christ alone. Today, we explore John’s words about Jesus in Matthew 3, who “will baptize with the Holy Spirit and fire.”.

Sunday, November 30th – Longing for His Return. As we enter the season of Advent, we prepare ourselves for the arrival of the Savior of the world. We long for Christmas. As his followers, we keep Jesus and his coming to earth that first Christmas at the heart of our celebrations. Jesus came to make things right, to heal what was broken. Jesus came to save and make us heirs to the riches of God’s kingdom. Yet we still wait and still struggle because the work of Christmas will be finished at his return. As we long, we look to the words of Jesus from Matthew 24 as he reminds us that we must “be ready.”
